Mona Kuhn was born in Brazil to German parents. She speaks a number of languages, including, German, Portuguese, French and English...maybe more. She currently lives in LA California. She has recently published a retrospective that begins in 1997 and moves forward. There is an amazing catalogue published by Thames and Hudson entitled "Works" which I recommend.
In one of the essays with this volume she says: "At times I wonder if I have the right to enjoy beautiful exemptions to our long history of human suffering, which we all know is part of everyone's life, without exception. No, my intention is not to further disseminate that which we struggle with. I want my role to be selfless and for it to be about transforming that long conversation with continual grief into a visual vocabulary of language and hope, of generous love and openness, and of freedom." I resonate with this. My own "Artist's Statement" is not nearly as eloquent, but I think, it is in the same ball park. At any rate, PLEASE check this out! https://www.monakuhn.com/
